The Welsh 3000 Challenge #su2c

The Welsh 3000 Challenge is taking place this weekend. Arriving at Pen-y-Pas on Friday and camping at the summit of Snowdon in preparation of the 30 mile trek across the 15 peaks of the Welsh 3000 route.

During my training and preparation of the W3K challenge I damaged and tore my hamstring, painful and regrettably interfering with my possibility to even attempt the route? So, I thought I would wait a few days to see just how bad my leg was, 8 days after the injury I opted to go for a little walk to stretch my legs and assess the pain ratio. A 3 mile walk was easy but I could feel my hamstring and thigh getting tighter by the minutes. On my arrival home I immediately checked on my leg to see if my 2 bruises were any worse. Needless to say I was somewhat shocked to see the bruising had spread and joined together indicating a possible internal bleed.

Hamstring Bruising prior to Walk

The Doctor immediately suggested that I should be hospitalized for my own health safety but with discussion I explained I worked from home and would submit myself to bed and complete rest for 48-72 hours, leg elevated and subscribed anticoagulants to prevent blood clotting by thinning my blood.

Severe Bruising Hamstring Tear

Needless to say I took myself straight to bed for complete rest, every ache and heart beat kept me on my toes for the following 3 days. During this time I had the chance to assess the challenge approaching in 5 days, the option of competing in the arduous 30 miles in what is deemed as “Britain’s toughest walk/trek”. Having trekked most of it at different times of my adventures, I can vouch that statement, tough certainly is just one of the many words I would use.

The Welsh 3000 is yet again another one of the many things that is on my bucket list but I guess I will have to see how the leg fares on the summit of snowdon to see if I can still get a chance to tick it off of my list for life.

The Challenge is taking place on the weekend of “Stand Up To Cancer” #su2c and we are also fundraising for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research, a team members Mum is currently fighting the disease.

I look forward to updating everyone via my Twitter and also by Social feed on Facebook during the Challenge. STANDING UP 2 CANCER!
