The Summit of Snowdon via Crib Goch

Lots of training comes in so many different forms and prior to my 2nd attempt on Mont Blanc the 2 Peaks was all part of the build up. On the 19th May 2013 the weather was perfect for an ascent of Snowdon via the famous Crib Goch ridge. I was able to video the route via my HD Drift camera and add one of the great albums of 2013 One Republic, the music will be forever in my mind as so many songs were played through so many training sessions.

Every time I summit Snowdon I spare a thought to 2 local lads from my home town in Weston-super-Mare that were sadly killed during the Winter of 2009. The Brothers James and Chris McCallion were experienced walkers and both loved the outdoor sports and challenges. Weather was expected to be a major factor into their sad deaths falling from the black spot.  My Video is dedicated to them both.

Regardless of the height of a hill or Mountain, when outdoors taking on challenges the utmost respect should always be given to the dangers that can be round the next ridge or pathway. The weather can certainly make or break a great weekend, there’s only so much a waterproof jacket can keep out in terms of heavy rain. Thankfully I’m wearing Rab and Berghaus gear these days but like so many others, always checking out the latest weatherproof outdoor gear on the market.

3 Peaks Challenges

Mount Snowdon is one of the closest three Peak mountain ranges to where I live, therefore it’s the one I have summited the most, the 2nd being Ben Nevis due to my rock climbing and the famous Arete, Carn Mor Dearg, but only taken on during decent weather. Snowdon being one of the famous Three Peaks is the last of the summits during my challenges and the 2nd highest after Scafell. During our training for Mont Blanc and the TMB we started at Scafell before finishing at Snowdon, the two days could not have been so different. The Saturday at Scafell in Cumbria was torrential rain, fog and mist followed by our arrival in Snowdonia and waking to a beautiful morning with clear blue skies making our Crib Goch climb one of the most enjoyable in years.

As many of you already know, there’s the perfect arrival when you reach the summit of Mount Snowdon, a Restaurant/Cafe that serves the most amazing bowl of soup after such a great workout but don’t even think of taking that tram back down, remember, you’re only halfway there!

See You at The Bottom.
